These are the limits used by regulatory agencies to show water quality impairment.

Water Quality Indicators

pH: < 6.5 or > 8.5

Dissolved Oxygen: < 5.0 mg/L

Total Phosphorous: PO₄-P > 0.1 mg/L

Nitrate: NO₃-N > 1 mg/L or N:P ratio > 10:1

Ammonia: NH₃-N > 0.025 mg/L

E. coli: > 406 per 100 mL

Enterococci: > 108 per 100 mL

Toxicity: BIN >= 4
